What | about capitalism & melancholy

yo al revesentrelaspiedras is Nicolás Sánchez and entrelaspiedras.cl his personal website.

If I had to isolate a connecting thread which motivates my work, this would be without doubt the notion of search, not only in a metaphoric sense (since every artwork seeks something) but also literal; if I were to find an adjective that defines it, this would be its romantic nature, given by the sensible and melancholic approach to reality but also by the nature of the search itself. This romantic search takes a lot from past historic sensibilities, updated in a somewhat post apocalyptic and hopeless way, in cities in which we are always contained – in its two aceptions of included and repressed- but almost never content.

My works are simple gestures or everyday acts which through their exaltation are transformed in a way of designation. These experiences serve as pretexts for talking about certain urban situations that reveal the necessity of claim and recovery of other spaces and times for exchange and social links, other lost ways of relating with others and with the environment, other velocities and dynamics in the cities that we attempt to inhabit. Through art, to learn and seize life, illuminating new alternatives that allow living and understanding what surrounds us in richest and more diverse ways.

An art of powerful metaphoric resonances, of modern aesthetics and of vindicative ethics, concious of its inability to change the social and political order, but aware of its capacity to be a significative testimony that stirs consciences and exposes reality. To change the world one person at a time, without redeeming absolutisms, but rather through the addition of smaller projects, through small pocket utopias.
